The BCA Foundation supports a wide variety of worthy causes. One that is highly anticipated each year is the BACK IN THE WOODS AGAIN event. This was created by Jerome Davis who was a World Champion bull rider that was paralyzed after being thrown from a bull in 1998.

The Back In The Woods Again organization was founded to provide mobility-challenged hunters with a chance to literally get back in the woods again. Participants are provided with transportation, lodging, food, and any gear they may need. Each hunter has a guide assigned to them to assist in the actual hunt.

The BCA Foundation made a sponsorship donation of $2,500.00 and Bear Creek Arsenal donated two rifles that were raffled and raised $1,450.00.

There were fifty-eight hunters this year that harvested a total of fifty deer. The N.C. Wildlife Commission was instrumental in making the hunt possible. Since it is held in September, the Wildlife Commission allows an exemption for the hunting season, which normally starts mid-October. Several officers were present to make sure all regulations were followed.

The unsung heroes were the dozens of volunteers who spent countless hours in preparation. It was held at Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church in Bennet, N.C. Three other churches provided meals. These included Beulah Baptist Church, Bennet Baptist Church, and Fall Creek Baptist Church. Desserts were donated by individuals in the local community. Landowners in Lee, Moore, Chatham, and Montgomery counties provided the hunting spots.

Items donated by businesses were auctioned or raffled. Examples included guns, ammunition, clothing, coolers, knives, and gun cases just to name a few. These raised funds for future projects.

While not everyone was a winner, there were no losers. All who participated enjoyed good food, associating with like-minded people, and seeing the smiles on the successful hunters who might not otherwise have been able to enjoy the sport of hunting. It is a great example of what can be accomplished when a community pulls together for a common cause to help those in need.

Funding for Bear Creek Arsenal’s donation was, in part, generated by the ROUND UP PROGRAM. When a customer makes a purchase, they have the option of rounding up the total to the next whole dollar. This amount becomes a donation to the BCA Foundation. These small donations have generated tens of thousands of dollars which are used to support local law enforcement, first responders, education, and community activities such as Back In The Woods Again.
